Description

  • Length: 5.75"
  • Wing span: 7.5"
  • Weight: 0.37oz (10.5grams)
  • Small and dark brown overall
  • White throat distinctive
  • Bright rufous colred tail with black bars
  • Long thin bill slightly down curved bill
  • No differences in plumage between males, females and juveniles

Canyon Wrens are found on rocky hillsides and near vertical cliffs.

Factoids:

  • Wing span is about the same length as 1 dollar bill & weighs about as much as 2 quarters ($0.50)
  • The Canyon Wren can climb up, down, and across rocks. A low center of gravity, large feet, and sharp claws aid in such locomotion
  • The Canyon Wren is not known to drink water. It probably gets all the water it needs from its insect prey
